That’s it! I’m charging late fees…

While remodeling, redecorating, and cleaning out my apartment I got to thinking. When you’re moving or unpacking you inevitably come across items that start the memory train careening through your otherwise simple day (Yes, I still have boxes to unpack from the move in July. Hey, I’ve been busy!). This isn’t always a bad thing, mind you, but it can often lead to a “6 degrees of separation” series of thoughts that makes me sit back and wonder whatever happened to one thing or another. This past week, that’s been happening a lot. I’ve found myself thinking about things that I should have but can’t find, things that are missing parts that shouldn’t be missing, and things I know I had at one time, and… wait a minute! I let “so and so” borrow that forever and a day ago!
There are a number of things that I could list here, and I’m sure some of them will turn up eventually. There are other things, primarily books, that I know I gave to people to read because they wanted to, they asked, or because I offered after a conversation and they jumped at the chance. I have, however, learned a valuable lesson in this. Don’t lend people books that you want back. It’s really just that simple. Alas, I have too much faith. I don’t know if those folks ever read the book, or if they got partially through it and set it on their desk where it was accidentally buried under a pile of papers or shoved into the garbage can (blasphemy, I say!).
Even if I replace them myself, which, honestly, is probably what I’ll end up doing, I’ll list the ones that are causing my library the most pain:
