Oh, the Horror…

The Pitt vs. Michigan St. game was, quite possibly the ugliest game of the tournament.  Not “ugly” in terms of high paced action and close calls.  No, no.  It was just… ugly.  Because I had faith in the Panthers to take it all the way this year, I have systematically screwed my brackets.  Well, all but one.  Quick list of schools that jacked up my brackets on days 1 and 2 of the tournament:

  • Pitt.  This goes without saying.  But make no mistake–I’ll always be a Panther fan!
  • Duke.  Uhm… Much as I hate Duke, I expected them to beat WVU.  I keep hearing that horrible, “Let’s Goooooooooooooo Mountaineers!” chant in my head.
  • Siena.  Seriously?  I went back and forth about whether to pick them or not, and I ended up sticking with Vandy.  My gut said Siena.  I didn’t listen.
  • Kentucky.  I’m a long time Wildcats fan (as I am a Louisville fan.  I love Kentucky basketball!  Of course I’d never root for them over Pitt, but still).  Marquette is tough, but I expected UK’s history in the tournament to fuel their game.  No dice.
  • USC.  They were on fire, and then they weren’t.  Wow, just a bad choice all together.  My bad.

I’m still going to watch the tournament, and I’m still going to yell at the TV, but Pitt’s loss really yanked the rug out from under me.  I had a brief moment of recognition and nostalgia after the loss.  I remember what it was like to go to a tournament on the road with the Panthers and leave empty handed.  Those busses and planes were never fun.

Write well,

Dawn
