Steve Madden Peep Toe White Pumps

What are some best friends for?

Sending you gorgeous images of shoes that you’ve been looking for and that you want terribly.

These same best friends would be the  best friend if they would have sent the shoes instead.

Psssttt….Take notes.

One bourbon, one scotch, and one beer…

Okay, so it’s highly unlikely that it would be any of the above.  I’m not a huge drinker, and I’m no alcohol connoisseur like Father Spoon and SickPuppy over at Should I Drink That, or Cindy over at My Brilliant Mistakes.  In fact, in terms of alcohol consumption, I’m rather boring.  I prefer wine to most alcoholic beverages, and I’m even picky about that.

People’s quirks keep popping up on blog sites and it got me to thinking about my own.  Granted, everyone has their quirks.  One of my stranger ones (Oh yeah, I’m aware there are more, don’t you worry…) has to do with beverages.  Not all beverages, and not all the time, but specifically beverages at a restaurant.  Mike, a best friend of mine since we were kids, sighs heavily and braces himself every time we go out because he knows what will follow.  If they try and seat us at one of those teeny tiny tables, he makes it a point to ask for a larger one.  He knows what’s coming.

I can’t have just one drink with my meal at a restaurant.  I don’t know why, and I don’t know when this started, but it just doesn’t happen.  Of course there’s the obligatory glass of water with lemon.  But you can’t eat a steak with water.  I can’t, at least.  (And I don’t know what ring of hell you have to be from to have a glass of Milk with Spaghetti, but if I see you doing this I’ll forever look at you sideways). Then you have the alcoholic beverage.  Most often it’s wine, though a well made Mojito or Martini is always a possibility.  Again, I can’t just drink alcohol with my dinner.  What if the taste of the Mojito clashes with the taste of the … well… anything?  I know there is a certain logic to pairing food with alcohol, but unless it’s wine, I haven’t had the time to figure those things out.  I like to taste my food on its own,  which is why I usually order a soda as well.  One could argue that the soda interferes with the taste too, but that’s what the water is for.  Even odder is that I don’t do this at home.  Only in restaurants.  Go fig.

Look, I know this makes no sense, so don’t try and find the logic in it.  Yes, I can wash away the alcohol taste with water as easily as I can wash away the soda taste.  That’s not the point.  I like my options.  I like knowing that at any moment I can have some water, or some sweet tasting wine, or a strong martini, or even some coffee.

It’s all about options and being able to make choices, folks.  Hot?  Cold?  Alcohol?  Caffeine?  Lemon?  I don’t know which it will be at any given time, but I like having the ability to make choices.
