As previously noted, I’m laid up with a nasty Kidney infection which means I couldn’t even make it to the YinzTeam game last night to cheer my friends on from the sidelines. In short, that sucks. Yeah, we’re all connected through the social media outlets and we’re able to keep tabs on one another throughout the day, but part of what makes the Pittsburgh New/Social media crowd so unique (at least in my eyes) is that we use those platforms to actually get together and have fun. I’ve met some amazing people over the past year or two, and I’m thankful for all of them.
While balled up in what feels like a permanent question mark position, I got a text from @DjLunchbox to check my email. The pictures I found waiting for me made me smile for the first time since I’ve been in the fetal position with this illness. The one above is my favorite, and it means a lot to me. And Father Spoon (aka Doogle) posted a run down of the madness that was the last regular season YinzGame–I understand there were planks to walk…
Thanks, yinz guys, for making me feel better and missed! You really made my day.
Yesterday Scott started a conversation on Twitter and then his blog that got me thinking. Well, a lot of people, really. He posed the question, “If you could have someone narrate your life, who would it be?” There were some interesting responses from some friends–Jennie said she’d have Sigourny Weaver narrate her life, and Dave threw his lot in with Morgan Freeman. Scott himself claimed Mike Rowe–the narrator for Deadliest Catch. Considering the way my life goes, I’d need someone who has a range of emotion in their voice. I need someone who can carry the weight of history and yet manage to be touching.
My gut response was immediately Cate Blanchett. She has a range in her voice that can shift from serious and severe to soft and touching in the span of a sentence, and that seems to be me in a nutshell. As Scott asked, I included a clip below. I’m sure all of you are familiar with this particular snippit, and I considered using one from one of the Elizabeth movies, but this happens to be my favorite part of LOTR, so why not?
It’s not just her work on LOTR that impresses me. Obviously her performances in both Elizabeth films were impressive, and she showed an even more down to earth side in Notes on a Scandal. I’m still impressed with her rendition of Katherine Hepburn in The Aviator. In fact, I can’t wait to see what she does in the new Indiana Jones film, too.
“Jump around, grab the rebound and pump the sound….”
So today’s title isn’t exactly original.I’m okay with that!Loved the movie, and love the song.In fact, I’ve been listening to a lot of Basketball flavored music these past few days. You know what I’m talking about—“Basketball is my favorite sport!I love the way they dribble up and down the court…” and “I wish I were a little bit taller, I wish I were a baller…”Come on, I can’t be the only one who remembers these classic 90’s songs…. Right?~*cue crickets chirping*~
“So keep your eyes glued to the kid with the Spaldin’– Hears lace, yes the backboard is callin’…”
Unless you’ve been living in a cave for the past 48 hours, you know that March Madness is in full swing, and I’m in my glory!I love football, no question, but I have a special place in my heart for the NCAA tournament.I didn’t grow up in a Basketball watching family (This is Western PA, y’all, there’s always football on somewhere).Yeah, we played, my dad coached, and I even received my first serious injury running suicides during practice. My pro-basketball career wasn’t meant to be, but I still love the game.Somehow I managed to become enthralled with Basketball. But College basketball culminates in The Big Dance!Three weeks of game after game, one-loss-and-you’re-going-home intensity!
Reasons to love March Madness:
The whole tournament lasts for only three weeks. It’s like the espresso of sports!
Upsets! Friday’s slate of games was amazing! In Tampa, all four games were upsets. There were OT’s, buzzer beater three’s, and late game surges that made the last 5 minutes of every game a nail biter! Four teams, all seeded 12 or lower, destroyed brackets all over the country, and even though I only had one of those upsets picked (I picked Sienna for Uncle Crappy’s pool, but then realized we were only picking final 4 teams, otherwise I’d have had 2), who doesn’t love to see the underdog win?
I could go in to a lengthy discussion about the beauty of the game, momentum, and how I picked my teams, but I think you get the point. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have MidTerms to grade, and my pompoms to dig up before today’s games!
