Non-update Update

You know what happens when you don’t blog for a few days?  You end up having a million and a half things you want to write about and share, and about a dozen things you feel compelled to comment on.  Oh yeah… I’ve been keeping a running list, believe me.  Some of the posts to look for in the very near future:

  • Ann’s Totally Rad 80’s Prom post (with pictures!  For now you can check them out the set on my Flickr Stream.  It was a most totally rad time, and everyone was there–Rick Astley, Prince, Boy George, the Macho Man, and a ton of folks who managed to relive the 80’s in one incredible night!
  • A M:tG post about the first Summit and the latest Summit 2: The Counsel of Odin (Gotta love Norm’s names for these get togethers! Incidentally, if you’re interested in playing and joining in on the fun, but you have no idea what all these acronyms are about, scoot on over to Norm’s Casual Magic blog and check out his “How to” series–it’s great!).
  • Hell’s Kitchen has started again, and I can openly admit that I’m addicted to that show somethin’ fierce.  Maybe I share too much with Chef Ramsay.  Maybe I just love to see people under pressure.  All I know is that I’m elated that Jason got the boot tonight.  I may have to make regular commentary on the show on Tuesdays.  We’ll see.
  • J.K. Rowling is suing a publishing house that is trying to publish the Harry Potter Lexicon based on a fan site that she herself used as reference material.  Believe it or not, this lawsuit has some far reaching, and serious implications in the reviewing, academic, online, and fan-centered art worlds.  Well, the book world in general really.  Why does it matter?  You’ll see.

And since it seems like it’s something that can’t be helped, and because it’s being thrust in my face every which way I turn–email blasts, snail mail fliers, Twitter conversations, TV commercials–I guess it’s time to rant about politics and what’s making my teeth want to wrap around and chew out my brain.  The topics that are likely to be addressed:

  • O’Bama’s “bitter” statement and the response from the pubic, media, and the two other campaigns.
  • The recent (and hyper production and dissemination) appearance of the Clinton negative response ad to the “bitter” statement.
  • John McCain’s response to “How do we beat the Bitch?” question from a supporter.
  • Are people this blind, really?
  • …. No seriously… are they?  ‘Cause I need to know…

“It hurts and stings…”

It’s Tuesday

I’ve been a busy girl these past few days.

Mom’s surgery went very well, and though she had some difficulty breathing when she was coming around, things are well on their way to improving.  She’s still having trouble taking deep breaths, and when she starts to get anxious she takes short, shallow breaths which is a big problem.  She was sitting in a big recliner today for a while, and she walked up and down the CVSU unit twice at the insistance and help of the nurses.  I could tell she was in a lot of pain, and it kills me to see that, but it’s necessary.  She’s holding up a hell of a lot better than I think I could, and though I’m still worried sick about her, I’m proud of her.  I’m also relieved that the scariest part is over.

As you might imagine, I’ve been thinking quite a lot over the past few days.  I’ve had a lot of insights that, quite frankly, surprised me.  I don’t know if I’ll post about them, though.  It’s not that they aren’t important, or too emotional or personal, it’s that I don’t know if I can put these revelations into coherant words.  I just know that I’ve been profoundly effected and that I have a lot of writing to do to think it through and try and get it to make sense.

I’m exhausted.  When I have a minute or two of down time I’ll try and get a Flickr account set up to link photos to from here until I get the Gallery up and running.  I also owe y’all a post about the Magic Summit.  For now, I need to try and get some healthy, restful REM sleep before going back to work tomorrow, visiting with Mom, going to yoga (at Mom’s insistance), and doing some last minute house cleaning before Thursday morning.

Sleep Well,

A Mini Renaissance

Mar 4

I’ve been woefully behind in finishing the transition to this site, and I have no real excuse other than that I was busy.  Horrible, I know.  But the kick off of NaBloPoMo for March has given me new enthusiasm to do so.  So, as Nice Guy Eddie said in Reservoir Dogs: “Now Look,  here’s the news:”

For the time being, I’ll be linking all my new reviews to the old site at Lyrique Tragedy Reviews.  Rather than try and break my neck making this site do what I want it to do before I use it the way I want to, I’ll just maintain both sites for a while, posting my Reviews and Essays there, and slowly moving them to some mysterious place here.  I have a backlog of reviews to post, and I was holding them in the hopes that I could be Superwoman and finish it all in a silly amount of time.  Alas, it wasn’t to work out that way, and I’m anxious to get those reviews out, but also my other thoughts too!  So keep your eyes open!  Which way did she go?  Where is she now?  Ha!  You’ll have to keep up, are you up for the challenge?

Contrary to some conversations that have gone on in the past few days about retro-blogging, I will be posting my NaBloPoMo entries for the first few days here.  I’ve never done that before, but I’d certainly like to maintain some semblance of uniformity for this month.  So look for my List postings for the first few days of the month to appear here.  Don’t worry, I’ll do it slowly so you don’t get overwhelmed.  See how much I care ?

As long as all goes well, I’ll be using this site as my primary blog-blog, and LTR as my Review blog for a while.  I had nowhere to really post the things I wanted and I started thinking about creating yet another blog, but that just seems silly when I have everything here at my disposal.

So there you have it!  Check later today for the list of the day, and then periodically for the lists from the first few days.  Aren’t you just jumping out of your skin?  I know I am!

Write Well,

~Dawn
